Clackamas County commissioner says county chair is interfering in the election.

From CC Chair Petersons facebook page:
I would like to actively encourage that you hold the Clackamas County Clerk accountable. If you vote in Clackamas County or if you know someone in Clackamas County ask them to vote this May 18th for ###### #######, Mayor of Canby. ###### is a professional. She has true management experience and has done an outstanding job managing change in Canby. If you wonder why we need to hold the independently elected Clerk accountable,
don’t be fooled this is an effort to gain control of the elections office for political purpose

Clackamas County Commissioner comments on Bernard

Milwaukie History

In 1997, Milwaukie recalled its Mayor and part of its council because of its handling of a proposed light rail project. After the recall Carolyn Tomei was elected Mayor. Not understanding the people she worked for, she continued to promote the same agenda in her two years in office. She promoted such projects as: the Downtown plan, the Riverfront plan, the purchase of the Junior High, and the Urban Forestry plan. All of these plans had been pushed for many years by the city and were so expensive that the citizens voted them down whenever they came up for a vote. The Urban Forestry measure was created by the city planners over a four year period. When it was released for public view in February 2000, it created such an uproar over property rights that the plan never made it to the council for approval. Because of the plan, the citizens of Milwaukie took steps to conduct another recall, this time against the Mayor and counsel man Jeff Marshal. About the time everyone was ready to start the recall of Carolyn Tomei, she filed to run for House District 25. Soon after, the second recall fell apart as the Citizens felt that this upcoming election was a good way to get rid of their Mayor.

In November 2000 Carolyn Tomei was elected to the Oregon House. Larry Lancaster ran for the city council unopposed, and the city manager found a new job in Astoria. Jim Bernard ran for and was elected as Mayor in a special election on March 13, 2001. Jim continued the tradition in Milwaukie of promoting the expensive plans of the past. He put a new twist on it by asking other government agencies to foot the bill for his plans. Projects such as moving the sewer plant, claiming that it was a regional issue county residents should pay for; Modification of McLoughlin by adding tree-lined streets and having ODOT fund it instead of using city gas tax money, and a light rail system paid for by metro and tri-met. History indicates that if any of these project ever came up for a vote, they would be voted down by the Citizens of Milwaukie.

After Jim Bernard was elected, the economy fell. To maintain the current city spending level and buy fire equipment, he proposed a funding measure of $1.10 per thousand value (+20% increase) and Larry Lancaster supported it. The measure was voted down (73.6%) and the city scaled back as they should have done before.

Clackamas County Commissioner responds to Oregonian comments

It is always amusing to me that the folks like Oregon first are the ones who promote diversity and respect, yet are the first to resort to name calling and distortion. If you listen to what Mr. Holladay has to say he has never advocated ” getting rid of taxes” or ” eliminating SDC’s”. He has advocated for a temporary suspension of SDC’s as an incentive to builders to ramp up production and get folks like electricians, plumbers, framers, roofers and all the other hard working men and women in the building trades back to work. These are the people of Clackamas County who have been hit hardest in this economy. Once the economy recovers these fees could be re-instituted.
The writer is correct that federal stimulus does not work but it has been Mr. Bernard who has been crowing about the millions of stimulus dollars the county has received and that he is seeking more of them. I would challenge Mr. Bernard to show what private sector permanent jobs these federal dollars have created.
If the writer believes that Holladay believes in no government then he might explain the fact that Holladay has served on the Oregon City Commission, The Oregon City School board and other civic boards as well as a volunteer at the local high school. As for the comments about ” Faith” that is an insult to thousands of citizens in Clackamas county. to suggest that believing in God somehow makes someone stupid or not worthy of holding public office just shows how ignorant the writer is, Consider that Ms. Linninger regularly mentions her church in her talks and I for one respect her for it.
Maybe its time for Oregon first to get off of mommies computer, out of mommies basement and realize that the world does not consist exclusively of the blogosphere.

Clackamas County Commissioner watches tree farce

I spent three hours tonight at the planning commission meeting for Clackamas County. This was supposed to be the final meeting for the proposed ordinance before it was sent to the County Commission. Much to my surprise the planning commission seemed reluctant to pass this ordinance on, and in the first few minutes it became obvious that none of them would support it. then to the crowds utter amazement they proceeded to go through the ordinance almost line by line making changes that none of them were going to vote to support. finally after almost two hours the commissioners did what they said they were going to do in the very beginning and voted to not recommend the ordinance. I can’t recall a more complete waste of time. but let me be the first to say that I predict that even though the planning commission came to the conclusion that this ordinance was poorly written and not needed as did all but a very few of the public who testified. The County Commission in their fanatical religious zeal to prop up the now discredited theory of man made climate change will pass this ordinance in June.

Clackamas County Commissioner on Lars Larson show

I had a good discussion with Lars today talking about solutions for Clackamas County. Urban renewal and tax increment financing, ;ight rail and the reasons buses are more efficient and how we can reduce costs by contracting out county services. The only way we can bring about these kinds of conservative changes is to help me beat my opponent by making a donation, hosting a house party or posting a lawn sign.

The Oregonian interviews Clackamas County Commissioner

I had an excellent interview with the Oregonian today. Len Reed associate editor was very professional and we discussed many of the issues in the campaign such as how to help stimulate jobs in Clackamas County. My ideas about public transportation, taxes, regulations and my opposition to the tree ordinance. I hope that they will see that the current board’s progressive positions are not what we need going into the future

Todays Events for Clackamas County Commissioner

I will be interviewing with the Oregonian newspaper editorial board in the morning and then on to the Victoria Taft show at 1:50 in the afternoon. tune in and hear a conservatives plans for Clackamas County Commissioner

Clackamas County Commissioner says…

Help remove the socialists on the board of county commissioners. They want to control what you do with your property and do not support businesses who create jobs. why would you vote for people who are destroying our economy and our country. My opponent continues to threaten groups who support me because he is afraid that he will lose his cushy job, where he can show up for a couple of hours a week and pull down a six figure salary paid by you!! Send him a message that you expect public servants to serve. Not raise taxes, fees and pass new regulations that keep businesses from creating jobs. Vote Dan Holladay for Clackamas County Commissioner on May 18th.

Clackamas County Commissioner asks …

Is the county better off now than two years ago? Have the Clackamas County Commissioners fulfilled the promises that they made when they ran for office in 2008? My answer is NO. They continue to propose regulations like the tree ordinance which stifle job creation. They continue to promote the radical religion of “global warming” and they promote increased taxes and fees which will not help the county recover economically. and now Jim Bernard threatens business associations with retaliation if they support his opponent! Is that who we want running our county?
